Description
Nicotinamide riboside converts to NAD+ via fewer enzymatic steps than NMN and was the first NAD+ precursor to receive GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status and a patented, clinically studied form (Niagen). Human trials consistently show 40–90% increases in blood NAD+ levels at standard doses, with research exploring benefits for muscle function, vascular health, and metabolic markers in older adults. Some biohackers prefer NR over NMN for its cleaner regulatory history and superior intestinal absorption, since NMN must be dephosphorylated before crossing the gut wall while NR does not. Effects are typically subtle and cumulative rather than immediately noticeable.
