Phenylpiracetam
Description
Phenylpiracetam adds a phenyl group to the piracetam structure, dramatically increasing potency and adding a mild stimulant-like effect that has driven its reputation in cold-weather endurance and cognitively demanding contexts — it was developed in the Soviet space program and is, notably, banned by WADA for athletes due to performance-enhancing potential. Unlike most racetams, tolerance builds quickly, and the biohacking community generally treats it as an occasional acute tool — for a big presentation or exam — rather than a daily stack component, often cycling with multi-week breaks to preserve effectiveness.
Effects
First dose
noticeable focus and drive within an hour
Same day
Use
How It Feels
One of the more strongly felt nootropics: real focus, motivation, and physical energy within the hour. The catch is that tolerance develops quickly, so it works best used occasionally rather than daily. Note it is a banned substance in competitive sport.
Evidence
Evidence Strength
Preliminary (limited / small human data)
Caveats
Much of the underlying clinical data is older Russian research not replicated in Western peer-reviewed trials. Phenylpiracetam is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Usage
Commonly Referenced Starting Amount
Reference only — no consumer dose
Commonly Referenced Amount
In the United States this is an unapproved new drug (prescription-only in some other countries) and cannot lawfully be sold as a dietary supplement. No consumer dose is listed.
Referenced Upper Limit
Not applicable outside clinical or research supervision
Onset

Biomarkers to Track
Subjective
(Daily)
Focus duration and quality (1–10)
Physical endurance during exercise
Sleep impact if dosed late in the day
Objective
(Quarterly)
Cognitive testing battery (reaction time, sustained attention)
Resting heart rate (stimulant load check)
Strong and effective, but tolerance builds fast and it is banned in competitive sport.
Competitive athletes subject to testing, and anyone wanting a daily-use option.
Taking it daily until it stops working, rather than saving it for occasions.
