Curcumin Phytosome
Description
Standard curcumin is notoriously poorly absorbed, but the phytosome complex bonds curcumin to phosphatidylcholine, dramatically enhancing bioavailability and tissue uptake. Curcumin is the primary active compound in turmeric and is one of the most studied natural anti-inflammatory agents, inhibiting NF-kB signaling and COX-2 enzymes that drive chronic inflammation. It supports joint comfort, neuroinflammation reduction, and may protect against neurodegenerative disease progression. This phytosome form ensures that the therapeutic dose reaches systemic circulation rather than being excreted before it can act.
Effects

Weeks 4–8

How It Feels
Relief builds slowly rather than hitting at once; over a month many notice easier, less stiff joints. The phytosome form solves curcumin's famously poor absorption, which is why plain turmeric often disappoints. Take with a meal.
Evidence
Evidence Strength
Moderate (some human RCTs)
Caveats
Evidence applies specifically to the branded Meriva phytosome delivery form, which was engineered to overcome curcumin's normally poor oral bioavailability; results may not generalize to standard curcumin powder.
Usage
Commonly Referenced Starting Amount
500 mg phytosome/day
Commonly Referenced Amount
1,000 mg/day phytosome (about 200 mg curcuminoids) is the researched dose — this does not translate to plain curcumin, where absorption is roughly 29-fold lower for an equivalent curcuminoid amount
Referenced Upper Limit
No upper limit has been established for the phytosome form specifically
Onset
4–8 weeks (inflammation)
Biomarkers to Track
Subjective
(Daily)
Joint pain and stiffness (1–10)
Post-exercise soreness score
Digestive comfort score
Objective
(Quarterly)
hs-CRP (inflammation marker)
ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation)
Liver enzymes ALT/AST
Very safe. The phytosome form solves absorption, and it has mild blood-thinning at high doses.
Gallstone sufferers, and those on blood thinners or before surgery.
Buying plain turmeric that barely absorbs, and taking it without a meal.
