Description
Semax is a seven amino acid peptide derived from a fragment of ACTH, a hormone involved in the stress response, modified so it survives longer in the body. It was developed in Russia at the Institute of Molecular Genetics and registered there in 1994, and it appears on Russia's list of essential medicines for cerebrovascular conditions. It is genuinely used in Russian clinical practice, which is why it feels more established than most things here. The difficulty is verification. No completed Western randomised controlled trial exists, and the most cited clinical work is open-label and published in Russian-language journals that Western researchers have largely not replicated or independently assessed. Registration in one country under one regulatory standard is not the same as evidence that would satisfy another.
