Selank is a seven amino acid peptide based on tuftsin, a naturally occurring immune-signalling fragment, modified for stability. It was developed in Russia as an anti-anxiety compound and is registered there. The proposed appeal is an anxiolytic effect without the sedation and dependence associated with benzodiazepines, which would be genuinely valuable if demonstrated. The evidence for it comes almost entirely from Russian-language studies that have not been independently replicated in the West, and no completed randomised controlled trial appears in international registries. As with Semax, the issue is not that the research is necessarily wrong, it is that nobody outside that research lineage has been able to check it.
