Description
IGF-1 LR3 is a laboratory-modified version of insulin-like growth factor 1, altered in two ways: an extended chain at one end and a substitution that greatly reduces its binding to the proteins that normally carry IGF-1 in the blood. Because those binding proteins usually limit how much is active, reducing that binding makes it considerably more potent and longer lasting. It was created as a research reagent, largely for cell culture work. Recombinant human IGF-1 does exist as an approved medicine, mecasermin, for a rare growth disorder, and it is a different product from this one. No human trial of the LR3 analogue has been completed, and it is prohibited in tested sport.

A long-acting IGF-1 analogue - a potent growth factor, not a mild peptide. The theoretical concern that matters is that IGF-1 signaling is implicated in tumor promotion, which is why sustained supraphysiologic elevation is not a casual intervention.
