Description

Cagrilintide works on an entirely different hormone system from the GLP-1 drugs it is grouped with. It is a long-acting version of amylin, a hormone released alongside insulin that contributes to feeling full and slows stomach emptying. Novo Nordisk developed it both alone and in combination with semaglutide, and the combination is where most of the attention has gone. That combination programme is large, enrolling roughly four thousand six hundred adults across its trials, with the biggest single trial randomising three thousand four hundred and seventeen people over sixty eight weeks and reporting weight loss above twenty percent. It is not approved anywhere yet. As a mechanism it is genuinely additive rather than a variation on a theme, which is why it matters.

What Are The Claims

Claims made for this compound: Increases satiety via amylin receptor agonism; Strong weight loss as part of CagriSema; Complements GLP-1 mechanisms

Evidence

Real trial programme, genuine results, but not an approved product. Combination data is where most of its promise sits.

Evidence Strength

Moderate (Phase 2/3 RCTs)
